Chicago Illinois is loaded with cosmetic surgeons who can perform tummy tuck surgery effectively and with outstanding results. With this big city comes options. You have many plastic surgeons to choose from, which can be a good thing or a bad thing.

What’s even more amazing is most of these plastic surgeons are board certified with many years of experience. This is all the more reason to look into Chicago area cosmetic surgeons to perform your tummy tuck procedure. With the reassurance of their certifications and experience, it makes your decision much easier and less painful.

Cosmetic surgeons like Otto J. Placik Dr. Placik is certified as a diplomate by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc.® and is an active member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is an active member of several local and national professional organizations.

Along with Dr. Placik, there are dozens of qualified tummy tuck surgeons who can perform your procedure.

If you want a cosmetic surgery tummy tuck, there are a few things you should know going into it. First off, the other term for this procedure is an abdominoplasty. So if you hear either phrase you’ll know it’s referring to a tummy tuck surgery.

A cosmetic surgeon needs to be board certified and should have at least 5 years of experience in his/her own practice. They should also stay up on all current information regarding their trade. This means continuing education to keep their cosmetic surgery skills up to par.

Any cosmetic surgeon should have dozens of before and afters, and should be able to give you contact information to patients for you to find out how the procedure went and if it’s worth it. If a cosmetic surgeon will not give you this information before hand I would not consider this surgeon for your tummy tuck surgery.

You should get a thorough understanding between a mini tummy tuck and a full blow abdominoplasty. You may find out you only need a mini tummy tuck, which is less invasive and the recovery is much quicker and less painful.

The procedures can vary quite a bit between surgeons, so do your research to find out what tummy tuck procedure fits what you’re looking for. Going in armed with information will leave no surprises once you get the surgery done, and anxiously see your results.

Anything is possible in Manhattan. Male tummy tuck surgery is one of them. Why not? Men have lower abdominal fat they want to remove. Why wouldn’t they be a candidate for tummy tuck surgery?

With Manhattan having such a large population, there are many choices a male can make to look into tummy tuck procedures and be happy with the result.

Dr. John E. Sherman is located right in Manhattan on 5th Avenue. He is a board certified plastic surgeon since 1980. Although Dr. Sherman specializes in face comsmetic surgery, he is an option for men in New York.

Dr. Joel R. Studin is located on Park Avenue right in downtown Manhattan. He is also board certified MD, FACS. He performs plastic surgery Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and New York, and has done so since 1985.

One more of many tummy tuck surgeons is Richard Swift, MD, FACS located on 87th Street in Manhattan. Here’s what one patient said about his service,

“Dr. Swift is a wonderful and dedicated surgeon. I am very happy with my results. Two of my friends have done tummy tucks and they look wonderful! He’s patient and he is serious about follow ups. He is really dedicated.” — Debie, Queens, NY

Men want to tighten their lower abdominal muscles after years of weight gain, inactivity and over-indulgent foods. Looking into a tummy tuck is a viable option, and living in Manhattan makes life even more stressful, causing poor choices in food and lifestyle.

The initial complication for a tummy tuck surgery deals with the anesthesia. There is a small chance you could have a bad reaction to it. Anytime you use either a general or local anesthesia this can happen, so you’ll want to consult your tummy tuck surgeon with any concerns.

Another of many possible complications, although not very commonis excessively bleeding post abdominoplasty surgery, which would require an additional surgery to get control of the blood and drain it properly.

In addition, you can form a pocket or collected blood, known as a hematoma (seroma); and either of these can create additional scar tissue and even more discomfort.

Another complication referred to as necrosis which is when the the blood supply to a section of the muscle skin or adipose (fat) is now cut off. The end result might be some drainage which is absolutely necessary to healing. This fluid is orange in color; but if it ever gets a bad odor or is a greenish white color, you must color your tummy tuck surgeon asap.

You may also temporarily lose feeling in the skin of your abdominal area, although on rare occasions, permanent loss can happen around the lower tummy and navel area. There is also a risk of excessive scarring of the skin or internally.

With any surgery there is risk of infection. The time period is usually within the first month or so after your tummy tuck procedure. There are other complications of a tummy tuck surgery, and we will cover them in a future article.

One of the big concerns and drawbacks with tummy tucks is the infamous tummy tuck scars! Depending on whether it’s a mini tummy tuck procedure, or a full blown abdominoplasty, the scars can vary greatly.

The mini tummy tuck scars are quite small and can be easily concealed under your bikini or panties. No one but your significant other will every know. This partial or lower tummy tuck is the first choice for many women, but not realistic for many of them carrying too much weight in the lower abdominal region.

On the other hand the tummy tuck surgery scars from a full abdominoplasty go from one hip to the other hip in the lower abdominal region, and the scar will also be seen around the navel or belly button area.

You must know that there are two incisions made when you have a full tummy tuck procedure. The first is an incision (horizontal) and the second is around the navel area in the shape of a circle.

These incisions are necessary to be able to get rid of the excess skin and fat from the stomach region, tighten the abdominal muscles, and reposition the navel. As you can see the tummy tuck scars from this procedure will be more extensive.

Ultimately it’s your decision, but going on the input of a credible tummy tuck surgeon is wise.

Hearing and reading tummy tuck stories can get you either very nervous to do a tummy tuck, or very excited to move forward with your tummy tuck surgery. Like any other surgery that deals with the body or vanity, you hear horror stories and some amazing ones.

Some of the reasons behind having the tummy tuck procedure in the first place are amazing. One lady had ovarian cancer while 7 months pregnant. She had 7 operations and the result was a very messed up abdominal area.

She went through the standard procedure and post surgery discomfort, but in the end she was thrilled with her flat tummy and has no regrets.

Another tummy tuck story was a woman who not only had a tummy tuck done but a breast lift (on right side), breast augmentation, and she also had liposuction done on her hiips, flanks, back and even her inner and outer thighs… whew!

Nine hours later she was done, and started her recover. Well weeks later she had this to say, “I love what my plastic surgeon has done to my body, what a thousand crunches could not accomplish, he did in nine hours.“

These tummy tuck stories are all positive and I’m sure with a little research I can find some really horrible ones, but I’ll leave that up to you and your continued research.

Have you considered a plastic surgery tummy tuck? You’ve worked your butt off (or not) with exercises to flatten your tummy with no success. You’ve even changed your diet to bring your tummy down and it hasn’t worked.

With the frustration mounting, and the ugly protrution in your lower abdominal area, you’ve finally decided you want to find out more about plastic surgery specifically for your tummy area.

A tummy tuck is a surgical method of removing excess skin and adipose tissue (fat) from your middle and lower stomach area. Also, tightening the muscles in this area is an added bonuse with this surgery.

Depending on your size, you may opt for a mini tummy tuck, or if you have more excess, a full tummy tuck surgery. The benefit of the mini is it targets the lower region only and is less invasive, making recovery easier and much faster.

Plastic surgery to improve your tummy size is a valid and acceptable option for women who have tried everything else.

If you are in relatively good shape, you will be the best candidate for plastic surgery tummy tuck procedure. Especially if you’ve been exercising and dieting, but still have a larger abdominal area.

Many women who have lost weight but still have fat or loose skin; or you’ve had several babies and have nothing but loose skin remaining; if you are just a bit overweight; or if due to age you’ve lost the elasticity in your skin you are a perfect candidate for plastic surgery tummy tuck.

If you’re interested in tummy tuck surgery, we’ll do our very best to help you understand everything behind a tummy tuck, including the procedure, cost, what kind of results to expect, how it relates to pregnancies or even having a hernia; as well as having had a gastric bypass surgery and lost a ton of weight.

Our main goal with this site is to educate you and help you make a better decision on whether you should do this type of procedure or not.

A mini tummy tuck focuses on the lower area of the tummy. This is a great solution for women who have given birth and lost their lower abdominal strength in those muscles. A mini tummy tuck can slightly tighten these muscles, but not near as much as a complete tummy tuck.

It is imperative you speak to a specialist to find out if a Mini Tummy Tuck is the right choice for.

Mini Tummy Tuck Cost

The typical cost of a mini tummy tuck is approximately $1800, but the range can be as high as $6,000. With this wide of a variance, I would strongly encourage you to seek out a credible surgeon that has many befores and afters for you to compare.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

The recovery from a tummy tuck surgery can vary depending on the health, age and pain tolerance of the patient. Mini-tummy tuck patients are required to wear a compression garment for up to 2-3 weeks following your surgery. You should avoid over-straining with strenous activity for about 4 weeks after the surgery.

One last note is that because a tummy tuck is elective surgery, your insurance will not cover it, so it is out-of-pocket.

The standard tummy tuck procedure should be methodical and well thought out to get your best results. I’ll outline the procedure you should follow to have a successful tummy tuck with the best results.

The first step in a tummy tuck procedure is quite obvious. Choosing your surgeon. Whether it’s a plastic surgeon or tummy tuck surgeon, a safe bet is to make sure they are a member of the American Society Of Plastic Surgeons. This means they:

Have finished a minimum of 5 years of surgical training with two years specifically in plastic surgery.

Has been fully trained and has experience in most plastic surgery procedures, which include breast surgery, body and face, and even reconstructive.

Only operate in accredited medical facilities

Obide by a very strict code of ethics.

Maintain their medical continuing education credits and requirements.

Is board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.

The next step is a complete consultation discussing medical history, prior surgeries, and any possible health risks. This consultation also covers pre-during-and post-operative procedures. As well as any questions or concerns you may have going into it.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

Your surgeon may ask you to get further medical evaluations; take a certain medication or vary the ones you’re taking; if you smoke, stop well before the surgery; and aspirin, anti-inflammatory ills and herbal supplements because they may very well increase bleeding.

You’ll then have specific instructions on what you can or cannot do the day of your surgery, the anesthesia they will use for your tummy tuck procedure, and what you need to do after the surgery.
